Junior International Group (age 7-13)
What is JIG?
The Junior International Group (JIG) is a small class of a maximum of 10 international students. The students are a part of Taunton Preparatory School (TPS) and are fully integrated into all aspects of TPS life. International students live with the British students in the boarding houses and they are taught English in a small tutorial style class by a specialist EAL teacher. The class allows the students to learn English and other academic subjects in a supportive environment that caters for the needs of international students. Pupils follow the National Curriculum and join their British classmates for subjects such as Physical Education, Music, Art and ICT. The intensive English tuition allows pupils to quickly improve their language enabling them to fully integrate into Taunton Prep School classes.
The aim
To create a secure and supportive learning environment for international students where they can acclimatise to British school life, develop their English language skills and acquire the tools to be able to study independently in a British classroom.
