The Chinese New Year of the Rat fell on the 7th February 2008. Together with Taunton School students, around thirty TISC students of mixed nationalities went to the Mandarin House Restaurant to celebrate the New Year. The students received the traditional lucky red pockets containing money, and shared sweets and presents with each other.

At TISC, we held our own party a few days later. Students from TISC and Taunton School enjoyed the celebration with traditional Chinese food and music. The Chinese Karaoke was very popular, along with Chinese games such as Mah Jong and card games. We also set out craft tables where students could create Chinese art with traditional brushes and inks.

Some TISC students also participated in a Senior School’s Headmaster's Assembly, introducing everybody to Chinese New Year, including Sandra Jin, who stunned the school audience with her magnificent playing of her Chinese stringed piano.
