On the Tuesday of the students’ final week at TISC, we held our annual Sports Day event.

The students were split into six teams, with a mixture of boys and girls in each team.   The day kicked off with a football competition and with no one sent off or any yellow cards being issued, the first event was a great success.

The British Summer weather tried hard to dampen spirits, with torrential rain stopping play for over an hour, but the students returned to the (soggy) sports field in good spirits.

This was the first time the majority of our students had tried ‘Welly Wanging’. In essence, students had to throw an old wellington boot as far as they could and although many found it harder than they had thought (only managing 1 metre!), the record for the day was set by Justin Wei, with an impressive 18.5m.

Next came Egg Throwing, in which students had to throw a raw egg as far as possible for their partner to catch. Quite a few of the contestants ended up with egg on their face (literally!) but the winners of the Poulet Prize went to Kitty Chen and Ruslan Yulgushev. With Kitty throwing and Ruslan catching, the pair managed an egg-septional 20.5 metres (just 4m behind the TISC record).

The final event was staff v student football. The ladies were first and what a performance! The female students proved just too good for the female members of staff, coming out 3 – 1 winners. Well done girls! Teachers – must try harder next time!! In the male game, honours were shared, in an exciting and nail-biting 0 – 0 stormer of a game. (It was lightning and thundering at the time!!).

Tired and hungry, the sports men and women left the field to enjoy a well-deserved barbeque, and believe it or not, the sun actually shone!
