New accommodation for the boys’ boarding house in the New Year
2009 saw the refurbishment and renovation of the girls’ boarding accommodation at Taunton School International. Now in 2010 it is the turn of the boys. As a part of our ongoing commitment to increasing the quality of our provision, work has started on the area between the two boys’ boarding houses. This will provide a link between the two buildings comprising new en suite bedrooms and a lounge area. As a consequence of these new facilities, accommodation can be expanded for the houseparents providing a further improvement to our pastoral care.
Mrs Caroline Nixon, Principal of Taunton School International, together with Mr David Taylor, Bursar and Clerk to the Governors, and Mr Steve Wilson, the contractor, supervised the clearing of the site in preparation for work to begin. Instead of the traditional ‘cutting of the sod’ ceremony, Mrs Nixon was required to ‘clear the snow’ as a signal that the project had commenced!
Mrs Helen Collier, Housemistress, who will take up residence in the Boys East Boarding House, is particularly excited about the development as it will add considerably to the boarding provision with new ‘en suite’ rooms and a lounge area . She says “it is exciting to work in a forward thinking school where the pastoral provision is prioritized and is constantly looked at to see where practical changes can be instituted in a timely and cost effective manner.”
We shall watch with interest the progress of the work and are delighted that we can continue to develop all that we have to offer at Taunton School International.
