› Taunton School International students take part in National Poetry Day 2009
Britain is a poetry nation. This year National Poetry Day fell on Thursday October 8th, and the theme was Heroes and Heroines. Poetry celebrates heroes of all sorts from sporting heroes to mums and dads. At Taunton School International all students were involved in reviewing heroic poetry and selecting their favourites, giving reasons for their choices. Students also created their own poetry by using words and phrases cut from newspapers to produce poetry newsprint collages on a heroic theme. The results were tremendous and the enthusiasm of the students clear to see. Mrs Hallworth the organiser of the National Poetry Day says: "The art of manipulating phrases and creating poems is a difficult one for non-native speakers but the poems that now adorn the walls of the school are evidence that the students have enjoyed the challenge." ‹ Back to Latest News
