› Taunton School International Summer School- Summary of Activities 2009

Weeks two and Three

With a new week, brings a new selection of subjects to study.  There has been a wide variety of subjects on offer, including business studies, media studies, mathematics and economics to name but a few.  The students are now gearing themselves up to the examinations on Friday in order to show what they have learnt.

Outside of lessons the students have been equally busy during these past two weeks.  There have been a couple of opportunities to go to the cinema to watch some of those new releases, namely the latest Harry Potter Film.

Sport strongly runs through the week’s activities with so many to choose from, some of the popular sports have been, archery, volleyball, cricket and basket ball.   There are many opportunity to get active with aerobic classes and the gym facilities have been made readily available to the students as well.

One evening after a day of lessons, the students went along to Hollywood bowl, to play some ten pin bowling; friendly competition was encouraged with even the teachers showing their skills.

Another evening activity that was organised was a selection of arts and crafts.  There are definitely some creative students amongst us.

There is a lot of excitement and rehearsals for the talent show which is one of the last big group activities, the line up includes, dance performances, comedy acts, singers, short sketches and lots of fun and laughter.

The daytrip that everyone was talking about was Saturday’s excursion to London.  The day started early with a train to Paddington station, the students were given a tour of main sights of attraction, including, the houses of Parliament, Big Ben, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St James Palace and Trafalgar square.  In the afternoon there was free time to go and explore a museum, take in some more sights or go shopping.

There has also been an organised trip to a big shopping Mall up in Bristol.  This was a great evening, for there are a lot of shops and restaurants to enjoy all under one roof.

To celebrate the end of the 3 weeks is a BBQ and Disco, a chance for the students have to have a good time together before they say their goodbyes the next day.
