› Taunton School Internation Summer School- Summary of Activities 2009

Week One

Since arriving in the United Kingdom your children have been involved in wide range of activities which we thought you may be interested to find out more about them.

After settling into their houses on the Saturday, the pupils had chance to rest after a long days travelling and were woken for a continental breakfast on the Sunday.
During the first day the pupils had placement exams to asses the level of English they were currently working at.  Pupils were then taken into to Taunton to explore the centre, and the grounds of the school with an evening quiz to round off the day.

On Monday lessons started with a wide range of subjects to choose from.  All students studied English and they then chose their options.  They could choose from Maths, Current Affairs, Philosophy, Design and Technology, Psychology, ICT, History, Biology, Environmental Science, Art, Theory of Knowledge, Study Skills, Literature and Geography.  There was then a chance to get involved with some of the sports competitions which ranged from traditional sports to more light-hearted sports games.  At the end of the day we all relaxed in the ‘Rec’ Room with some well earned pizza.

One of the highlights of the week so far was going down to the coast, to a little village called Dawlish Warren.  It was very refreshing to breathe in some sea air and eat some traditional fish and chips.  The Go-Kart rides also proved an enjoyable treat.

Lessons have also been a very important part of the day with students getting fully immersed in the material.  In Biology for example, pupils have been collecting and analysing fossils and in Geography students have been making a new reports about ‘a volcanic eruption’ in Taunton applying the knowledge they had learnt in creative ways.

Sports have been popular activities during the week, with a wide variety to choose from including, swimming, tennis, badminton, street dance, and football to name a few.

Preparations for the traditional Talent Show are now starting, where students have a chance to show off their talents, this looks to be a great evening.  The creativity doesn’t stop there, towards the end of the week craft activities such as with jewellery making, card making and clay sculpting were offered.

The week will then finish with a trip to Bournemouth.  It promises be a fun day, with the students taking a splash in a water park in the morning and then given time to go exploring and shopping in a beautiful English seaside town.
